Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge is a spin-off of the popular adventure reality series Running Wild with Bear Grylls, where the famous survival expert takes celebrities on wild journeys across the globe. The new show, which premiered on July 25, 2021, on National Geographic and became available to stream on Disney Plus on August 10, 2021, adds a new twist to the format: Bear Grylls sets up challenges for his celebrity guests to test their survival skills and mental toughness in extreme environments.
The show features six episodes, each with a different celebrity guest, ranging from Hollywood stars to comedians to athletes. Some of the guests include Natalie Portman, Simu Liu, Ashton Kutcher, Florence Pugh, Anthony Anderson and Rob Riggle. They join Bear Grylls in locations such as the Escalante Desert, the Canadian Rockies, the Costa Rican jungle and rainforest, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Great Basin Desert.
In each episode, Bear Grylls teaches his celebrity guest essential survival skills, such as how to rappel down a canyon, how to build a shelter, how to start a fire, how to find water and food, how to navigate using a compass and more. He also sets up challenges for them to demonstrate their ability to use these skills in high-stress situations, such as crossing a raging river, climbing a frozen waterfall, escaping a flash flood or facing a venomous snake.
Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge is not only an entertaining and thrilling show, but also an inspiring and educational one. It showcases the beauty and diversity of nature, the resilience and courage of human spirit and the importance of teamwork and friendship.
