RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 5 is the latest installment of the popular reality TV show that features drag queens competing for the title of the UK’s next drag superstar. The show is hosted by the legendary drag icon RuPaul, who also serves as the main judge and mentor for the contestants. The show also has a panel of judges that includes RuPaul’s longtime friend and collaborator Michelle Visage, and two rotating judges from a list of British celebrities.
The fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK premiered on September 28, 2023 on BBC Three and BBC One in the UK, and on WOW Presents Plus internationally. The season consists of eight episodes, each with a different theme and challenge. The challenges are usually themed around different aspects of British culture, such as acting, comedy, singing, dancing, sewing, and more. The runway presentations are also inspired by various British icons, trends, and references. The judges critique the contestants’ performances and looks, and decide who are the top two and the bottom two of the week. The bottom two queens have to lip sync for their lives to a song chosen by RuPaul, and the one who does not impress RuPaul is eliminated from the competition. The last queen standing is crowned as the UK’s next drag superstar and wins a cash prize of £100,000.
The cast for the fifth season was announced on September 11, 2023 on social media. The cast includes 10 drag queens from different parts of England, who represent a variety of styles, personalities, and talents. The contestants are:
The guest judges for the fifth season include Carol Vorderman, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Yasmin Finney, Suranne Jones, Kristen McMenamy, Karen Hauer, Aisling Bea, Joel Dommett, Edward Enninful, Alexandra Burke, Cush Jumbo, and Daphne Guinness. The show also features special appearances by some former contestants from previous seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
