American Idol Season 24 premiered on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 8 PM (ET/PT) on ABC — moving to a Monday night timeslot early in the year. 

Episodes air weekly on Monday nights and are available to stream the next day on Hulu.

  • Host: Ryan Seacrest returns to guide contestants and audiences alike — continuing his role since the show’s inaugural season.

    • Carrie Underwood (returning for her second season on the panel)

What’s New in Season 24

Season 24 ushers in several notable updates:

  • The show inaugurated a Monday night schedule — a notable shift from traditional Sunday airings. 

  • Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover relocates the pivotal middle phase to Nashville, Tennessee, delivering a fresh spin on the competition’s key round. 

  • A brand-new Ohana Round pushes contestants to perform before industry tastemakers — with only a portion advancing to the Top 20. 

  • Voting is more interactive than ever, allowing fans to participate via social media as well as traditional methods. 

Auditions & Format

  • Auditions: Virtual and open-call auditions were held nationwide between August and October 2025 through the Idol Across America initiative. 

  • Judges’ Auditions: Selected contestants went head-to-head with the judges in person at Belmont University in Nashville. 

  • Contestants progress from local auditions to Hollywood Week and beyond, with public voting shaping the competition as American Idol narrows hopefuls toward the finale.
